Vampire’s Kiss (flash poem)

Listen to the first stanza

Heart beating
breath quickening
anticipation building
ruby lips
surrounded by such pale face
moving closer
tongue slowly
tantalizingly
moves over the lower lip
an elongated fang peeks out
gently biting the lip
in anticipation
I tilt my head
arching and presenting
my neck
eagerly awaiting
the vampire’s kiss.

(I am adding a second stanza – also written “in a flash” – to my original post)

Arms
crushing strength
embrace me
squeezing what little breath
remains
eyes
mesmerizing
captivate completely
moistness as lips
gently brush
my skin
urgent need
pent-up
desire
nearing the point
of no return
quick, piercing
pain
muffled cry
softly silenced
moaning pleasure
sense of loss
(sense of gain)
heart slowing
life ebbing
eternity awaits
(as I awaited)
the vampire’s kiss.

  1. Kavita says:

Oooohh.. felt a shudder down my spine! And now, the poem is making me wanna pick up Bram Stoker’s Dracula for a third read! Brrr….rrr…

    • Tim Keeton says:

Thanks, Kavita. I actually added a second stanza since your comment. Check it out.

      • Kavita says:

Just check’d … and totally spellbound by this addition!!!
        “sense of loss
        (sense of gain)
        heart slowing
        life ebbing
eternity awaits”… It got me thinking what role do I want to play!! That of the bitten or that the biter?!?! Still thinking.. maybe I will reply with a post of my own… just maybe… Or do I wait for the dark, for the forces to take over?!

  2. Nice, Tim! I see you’re keeping things steamy while I’m away.
    [Naw she di-ihn’t!]
Seriously, though. This was lovely. And a big smile for “arching and presenting.” Reminds me of livestock.

    • Tim Keeton says:

It figures a Texas gal would know about them sorts of thangs…

I am glad you enjoyed it, and even more glad to have you back. You have been missed.

Nice new photo by the way.

      Rhyme on!

      • Ha, yes, it does figure. I tweeted on Thursday that the smell of Chicago’s mounted police takes me straight back to Texas pastures. Seems stronger the longer I’m away (a decade now).
(Okay, ha – I’ve already started a poem ’bout it.)

Thanks on the photo, Tim. The previous was from years ago. Was just a lass!

I came here to comment on the lovely, seductive poem, read Margo’s ‘arching and presenting’ and lost it. LOL. Farm girl here. Oh man. okay. Ahem. Back to the poem:

Very gothic. The first stanza is my favorite because is shares everything without saying anything. It has passion, yet stops at the right moment. It is, as Kavita says, in the spirit of Bram Stoker (who I hold high on a pedestal and have not enjoyed many other vampire stories since).
