Hello All and (Poetic)Sundry (and everyone else of that Ilk),
Welcome to the official site of The Undead Poets Society. All who engage in waxing poetique are invited to contribute and become full-fledged (undead)members.
If you have no clue as to what exactly is an Undead Poet, click here to find out.
This site is for all things poetic: rhyme, verse, prose poems, etc. Whether you danse macabre, have fangs, are zombie-like, or are just a living poet – and therefore, undead – (like us) you are welcome.
We have a special Official Member “your in the society badge” suitable for use on your blog, site, etc.:
To become an Official Member of the Undead Poets Society, with all appurtenant rights and privileges (basically, bragging rights and access to some pretty undead talented poets), one must needs do the following:
That’s basically it. This site is a Poetry Haven for those who wish to imbibe from the fair muse’s cup.
Rhyme on!
Where can I get the text for the badge, please……bkm
If you copy and paste it into your Media library on your WordPress dashboard, you should be able to add it to your site via an Image widget.
Otherwise, it is located here on my site:
Please let me know if either works for you.
Velcome!
I am not sure if this is how you post your poem.
Ancient Seeker Of Blood
he woke at sun set
hunger filled his being
yet his still heart dreaded what was to come
hunting for fresh kill always sickened him
and yet he knew it must be so
darkness covered his soul his need
while he stacked he thought of the centuries
he had passed in loneliness and dispare
ever drench in blood and memories
To drink the blood of an innocent was repugnant
to his senses
but such must be or sicken and die
so many years had passed
yet he remembered her sweet alabaster face
his dead heart still hungered for her
the very memory of her scent filled his longing
left behind centuries ago out of pity
now he walked this darkness alone
until he would grow tired of life
so tim i have a question how do i put the undeadsociety on my dashboard…its kind of confusing then after that do i post my poem again???
Curt,
You can add UDPS to your wordpress dashboard (The “My Dashboards” drop-down – second tab in the upper left corner of your screen. That’s where you should see/click “undeadpoets”).
You can then post poems, etc. to the site directly, as posts, authored by you, and not as comments, or something posted by me for you. Give it a shot, and if it is still being contrary, let me know.
Tim
okay tim your going to hate me…when i go to my dashboard i think i accidently made a blog page show it shows like my blog page i don’t see anything that says undead poets it just shows blog stats and surfer it has a quick press were i can post stuff but i think that will go on my page…..sorry 😦
No worries, Curt.
At the top of your page, you should see My Account, My Dashboards, New Post, Blog Info.
These are all drop down boxes.
If you click on My Dashboards, you should see curtdiggity, and under it, undeadpoets.
Click on undeadpoets, and it will open up your dashboard for undeadpoets where you can enter posts to the site.
Give it a try.
absolutely must belong to this society! Followed, rolled, tweeted…
this is my Flash Fib for entry, based on definition of the word “Livid” I recently read on vocabulary.com
LIVID
Wrath
so
acute
it leaves marks
on your living flesh,
imparts death’s luminosity.
Need to work on a cleave though. Loving this site…thanks 🙂
Very nice.

Wow.
Velcome to the UDPS! You are welcome to use the Member Badge above on your site, etc. (if you need the code, I can email it to you). I have given you Contributor rights, so please submit poems whenever you like.
Rhyme on!
Just came across this site and I simply cannot live without joining! Below is a poem as requested and I have done all the other requirements. Let me know if there is anything else! Thanks!
Deep Endless Red Sea:
Look at her, how sad she is
She used to be free
But life couldn’t give her what she needs
Now she’s gone, wants to find her way
Come back to reality, but not today
She forgot how to pray
So, lost this pour soul will stay
Ripping her way through tangled hearts
And decaying lives
Sticking to this web of eyes – she’s spun
She’s the only one who believes
Yesterday’s lies as tomorrow’s truth
She can’t even fly now
Her feet tied by a rope, threaded by guilt
And a loss of a hope that can’t be rebuilt
She can’t remember where she left her wings
Knew she shouldn’t have taken them off
Forgot how to turn on those rings of light
That once shown upon this now misplaced life
Misguided thoughts
Turns out what was wrong was right all along
She’s so far gone
Swimming with her collection of broken hearts
And lost memories
Drowning with these smiles
Turned around in a deep endless red sea
Out where she can’t be seen
Where she will never be found
Profound. I particularly like:
She can’t even fly now / Her feet tied by a rope, threaded by guilt
and
She can’t remember where she left her wings / Knew she shouldn’t have taken them off
and
Swimming with her collection of broken hearts / And lost memories / Drowning with these smiles

Very good! And welcome to the land of the (un)dead, Tara.
Here’s my favorite line:
She’s the only one who believes
Yesterday’s lies as tomorrow’s truth
Thank you both for your comments! I’m excited to be a part of this. Just so I’m clear, I should post poems on this blog as a contributor? Are there any particular days or regulations, etc. I should keep in mind?
You may post your work whenever you like, 24-7, the more the merrier. I occasionally create “challenges” but there is no obligation to accept the challenge, (just a lot of fun if you do!)
Rhyme on!
I am not a poet…I just started to try to write…
CONGRATULATIONS…it is great to have a society of similar interest..

hope you enjoy…

Oh, but Shakira, I humbly beg to differ, for you see your Naisaiku is indeed poetry. I love how you created a mirror or palindrome effect, rotating everything around: GIFTED TALENTS LOST!
I also like the line: Missing muses, Sleepless nights
Very pretty.
I believe you could be an (undead)poet. 😉
Rhyme on!
Seriously? May I? what do I have to do to qualify? It will be so humbling for me… to come to my blog if you like…http://justmeshakirack.blogspot.com or http://justmeshakira.wordpress.com
you just make me smile…thank you, kind sir!

What if I don’t have a Twitter????
All is not lost, fair one…
We (undead)poets communicate quite a bit via Twitter, but if you do not have/use Twitter, if you can at least do the other steps (Follow this site and add it to your blog roll; Comment and post a link to this site on your site, blog, etc.), you can still jooooiiiinnnn usssssss!
Rhyme on!
Oh good! Ok, I am joining then, if that’s alright! 🙂 Here is the poem you asked for! It is the most recent one I wrote for my blog:
THE WISH
I wish upon a marigold
for adventures to unfold
and strength enough to make me bold
as I go traipsing round the world
and obstacles my way are hurled
by wind that past my head has swirled
as if it must fight against the dawn
and create a night through a yawn
until I fight the darkness gone
I wish upon a blade of grass
for a dream that’s made of glass
and tells the darkness it will pass
and I awake with stary eyes
as I have shed my self of sighs
beneath the deep expansive skies
and I will stretch my arms and laugh
at clouds above shaped like giraffe
until I spy and wander down a path
I wish upon an apple tree
with star-shaped golden seeds
and bright green leaves
for weather that is light and fair
and a lover that will meet me there
beneath the dappled light we’ll make a pair
and we’ll hold hands the whole day long
and feel as if nothing can go wrong
until the birds do end their song
And I am going to go add you to my blog roll right now!
I like this poem, Lauren Michelle. Thanks for sharing it.

in simplistic beauty none can match

Here is the piece I would like to offer:
Red Haze–
I watch the tip of her cigarette burn.
In the darkness, the light shows her face.
Cast in a red haze, she looks adrift.
Her eyes are lost in shadow.
The burning ember fades as her lips withdraw.
In the fleeing light I watch her exhale.
Lips spread and a slight smile forming.
The smoke flows toward me and I laugh.
I laugh at the perfect beauty of the moment.
My hand reaches up to touch her face.
Fingers wanting to caress her cheek.
Before I can rest a finger on her, I know.
Know, that it is not her with me.
The cigarette falls to the floor and burns.
My fingers touch the cold glass.
The face in the mirror is mine.
I can almost see her walking away.
The smoke following her
down the hall.
Nice imagery. I could visualize the whole scene.

I’ve been looking for a place to converse with my fellow undead…
I have added you to my blogroll, and subscribed to follow you, I don’t have a Twitter account but hopefully this can be overlooked after I submit my poem (this poem is from my own blog):
Blank Slate
The empty pages of a life fall from the sky,
Melting into the ground of my mind.
Lost in a whirlwind of paper and ice, I try to look ahead.
There is a rumble in the ground, a foreshadowing of the train screeching
To a halt before me.
Do I board the train?
Where is its destination?
The passengers lean forward, looking through grubby windows, wondering
What I will do.
One woman tilts her head to the side and raises her eyebrows, her mouth opens as if
To say something, then closes abruptly as she fades back into her seat.
The whistle blows, the time drags on.
Still, I sit motionless, gaping at the open door, willing myself to step through.
A child comes to the door, dressed in short pants and gripping a stuffed rabbit by the tip of the ear,
She looks at me.
Staring back at her, I see my decision mirrored in her eyes.
I will not board the train.
It is not yet time.
The train lets out a sigh as the doors close.
I turn, head back to my seat and watch the water soak into the papers on the ground,
Obscuring their words.
One woman tilts her head to the side and raises her eyebrows, her mouth opens as if
To say something, then closes abruptly as she fades back into her seat
Nice imagery. For some reason it seemed like I would visualize the scene in grainy black and white.

Hello….
Can a “deadpoet” join the “Undead Poet’s Society”? I would love to join!
My blog: http://deadpoet88.wordpress.com/
As for the poem, I’ve got this up on my blog too, but I’ll post it here:
Fear
Bow down to your fears in awe,
Quickly take out an iron dagger,
And stab each one to death.
For fear is merciless when touched
By the breath of a coward,
Cruel and demented, when eyes shy away.
Fear cuts at the slightest sign of weakness,
Like no scar a knife can leave,
The will breaks, scattering like shards of glass.
Fear seeps silently through the darkness of the mind,
Ubiquitous is its hunger,
As even the faintest trace of light is extinguished.
Fear is carried by the wings of the wind,
Like a parasite, growing larger,
As it drains the life from the body of its host.
Thus, give in to fear, but let fear not know
The face of a craven,
Lest a wish to be scourged for eternity lies on your lips.
For fear cuts deeper than sticks and stones.
~deadpoet
Why of course one can! I only said that most of us are undead; not all of us. 😉

Rage:
Like an angel of darkness you stand
Ethereal and beautiful in your fury
The swirling air whips your hair
Chaos and hate in your power
The moon hides in fear
With your power unleashed
This earth may see
The darkest day and darkest night
Such a destruction
That may never be reversed
plz let me know if i qualify
Velcome! You certainly qualify.
I have added your blog to our blogroll and you now have Contributor rights to UDPS. You are also welcome to use the official “Member” badge on your blog, etc.

Hi Tim, and all,
I’ve enjoyed reading the poetry here, there is a tremendous amount of talent here. I don’t have twitter but I can follow the other guidelines.
Slowly lingering,
silky dew drips
before evaporating
into the fresh
morning air.
The succulent nectar
of the sun’s first breath
invigorates
the remaining tears
of night’s grayish
mystique.
Somber quiet death
pierced
dawn’s awakening melodies.
The succulent nectar
of the sun’s first breath
invigorates
the remaining tears
of night’s grayish
mystique

Alright..here’s my poem. Following and linking..I really want the cool badge
Without light and darkness
Nothing moves nor settles true under your gavels view
the actions limited by the perception of the onlookers judgement
I could be completely free without your constant gaze upon me
But neither you nor I would know of this grace
If there were to be a lack of spying

Aloha Undead Poets Society! I bumped into your site via another poetry site which I have forgotten in the excitement of joining in on the poetic fun here. I can’t get enough of conversing with other poets, to find another platform to do so from is fantastic. That said, just one question; is putting the badge on my page negotiable? I don’t use images aside from one top banner as I prefer the poetry to stand or fall on it’s own (also I don’t own a camera or any photos/images…) Other than that, I already linked to your site and wanted to leave my information in hopes of inclusion.
i – Must confess I do not use twitter. There is a facebook page for the site but I’m guessing the two are not inter-related. (Address for profile is http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100001601562930&v=wall if it helps, if not, no worries.
ii. I added a link to UDPS to my site as well as subscribed to your wordpress site; my main page is “The Fool’s Back Pocket” @ http://caribbeanfool.wordpress.com/
iii. Is a link OK for a submission? http://caribbeanfool.wordpress.com/2010/03/15/now-ya-done-it/
iv. Bitchin’ website. Would love to join in on the fun. Will be poking around and commenting until then. Thanks much,
crb.
Velcome CRB!
nostalgia,
nothing else. it might hurt
just as bad tomorrow as it will tonight
I can relate…
You do not have to use the Official UDPS Member Badge on your site (It is not a requirement, but a privilege).
I will add your site to our blogroll and give you Contributor rights to UDPS.

Go for it. You should now be “live.” (Or should that be “undead?”)
Hi,
I’ve added you on Twitter (http://twitter.com/paradoxicali), listed you in my “Poetic Prose” Twitlist, and blogrolled you on my website (the one an only link on there lol!). Is this sufficient for entry?
Oh and poem below, hopefully good enough to grant access…
Rain Rhythms
Rain lashes my window over and over, splish-splash-splosh-splish-splash-splosh, again and again. It builds to crescendo, a forte of rhythm, melodic in tone and soothing to hear. Lying in bed I let it envelop: my head, my dreams, my heart, my soul. Pulsing around them, it drums with precision, stirring the beat at the depths of my soul. Tribal – I feel it – longing and yearing, nature’s attempt to make me her own. Instinctive and natural it transports me out – I’m lying outside with the rain on my skin. Warm drops of light cool on my face. I taste it, it falls hard, soaking my clothes but I feel more at peace than ever before. What magic it has, the rain from the skies, casting its tempo like a spell on my soul.
Am I in? =) x
You’re “in like Flynn…”

Winter Wind
As winter wind it creaks and moans
Whipping o’er the world so cold
As brittle as some ancient bones
This age old story’s been foretold
Whipping o’er the world so cold
Spellbound spirits lost in time
As brittle as some ancient bones
Fermented long as vintage wine
Spellbound spirits lost in time
Haunting us, lost in the night
Fermented long as vintage wine
We must bring them into the light
Haunting us, lost in the night
As brittle as some ancient bones
We must bring them into the light
As winter wind it creaks and moans

ONLY ONCE
I’ll ask – only once.
Will you follow me down into this darkness?
Creep behind me – quiet – like a shadow.
Do my bidding.
Utter my name in ecstasy – deep.
Give me.
Make me undone.
End me.
Your reward … my sweet oris
until completion.

With an icy cold body
and an even icier heart,
she gave into his fantasy.
He doesn’t see the look on her face
or notice that she is cold.
His sweat and his heavy breathes
distract him even more.
He smiles.
She snorts.
They part ways.
Thinking how cold it is,
the climate outside.
Thank you! Great blog. I have added it to the roll…
Hi! I’m very new and from what I would see,I would very much love to become an undead poet. Here’s a poem that I have composed a while back.Hope you like it.
An ordinary day
Just
an ordinary day,life
lay wasted,in a dump
of uncertainities
and hope,dying
but pulsing,wheezing
in the sparks,the perks
moulded over,the wings
torn apart,clipped
and bleeding green
fungus covered face
of an angel turned
heavenwards,monotony
slowly smothering the weak
trickle of breath as it
shakes
for a moment and
dies….
I have added you to the blogroll. Please follow @UndeadPoets on twitter and your requirements will be complete.
Ciao!
What a great site – so many amazing poems – I will never get any more of my own written.
I should be honoured to be a part of this site.
I have added the site to my blogroll – followed on twitter – and here is one of my poems.
******
Saturday Afternoon
He was born with eyes searching,
wrinkled and bruised, on a Saturday afternoon.
As the clock chimes, his curled fingers reach out and
they take him from what he knows.
Wrinkled and bruised, on a Saturday afternoon
he watches an endless white marshmallow sky;
they take him from what he knows,
a firm hand leading him on.
He watches an endless white marshmallow sky
through safety glass, his breath blurring the world.
A firm hand leading him on
he shuffles past a collection of lost shells.
Through safety glass, his breath blurring the world,
longing crushes his chest.
He shuffles past a collection of lost shells,
trying to overlook images that haunt him.
Longing crushes his chest.
His feet drag. In the gloom he gets lost,
trying to overlook images that haunt him
etched in the past.
His feet drag. In the gloom he gets lost
by the bed. A picture – someone he knows
etched in the past;
loss whispers across the decades.
By the bed a picture, someone he knows.
As the clock chimes, his curled fingers reach out and
loss whispers across the decades.
He was born with eyes searching.
Please let me know what else I need to do.
Jo
Jo,
Good stuff. I have added your blog to the roll. I don’t see you following either @UndeadPoets or @timkeetonwriter though. So close… :-}

newbie here….. what a blissful disaster i found this site :D,,,, I think i had follow the instruction. most of my poem are macabre, awe, and horror.
THAUMATURGIC
When the breath lost..
Soul flies
Smile faded after those tears
But my spirit won’t die away
It reside on that fancy black gown
Where a gracious smile draw remorse
The skin as white as magnolia
With cheeks are like some roses pair
When the eyes deeply stare
Sink the hurt lullaby
“Where is my Prince?
I wanna play with!
I’ve been waiting
With that guillotine
And lifeless wine”
Don’t be afraid
Promise that as sweet as honey.
Hurry come my Prince!
I’ve tried to waiting
Be with you, beside you,
With that guillotine
And lifeless wine”
here is the link of my other collection:
hope you enjoy the reading. 🙂
Very nice! Velcome!
I sit and stare
expecting something great
to “poof” out of the air.
Seconds feel like hours
minutes never end
I just continue to sit here and cower.
Millions of thoughts race through my mind
can’t make sense of one before the next starts
Does the brain ever unwind?
