not everything needs a name

meet me at the river
after the flooding has passed,
the muddy banks, virgin once again

we will watch the sunset
the ducks heading to shore
as the waves turn purple and pink

let us have a tea party
with the ghosts of our past
and smile as they drink the poison
of insignificance

we can talk about the masks we wear,
I can share a secret
then you will share a secret
and we can feel connected
on this muddy virgin beach
we can be in love

in the dark I can hold you
because I want you to hold me
but I cannot ask you with words,
I can only hope you feel the same

we forget that new pains
will come in time,
for now we have the sound of water
flowing, washing away our foot prints
in the mud where we buried the past

insects holding a vigil, as we walk
hand in hand into the water
seeking baptism
in something we cannot understand

as our feet touch the cold water
we laugh and I see a sparkle in your eye
that tells me everything will be alright
