Smiles In The Night Sky

If there were a new star,
Every time you made me smile,
The sky would be filled,
More than it could hold,
And it would burst,
Making every moment worth while,
And spreading light,
On stories yet told.

Because you simply make,
My heart slip and stutter,
As little fireflies,
Lighting up the night sky,
Radiant and glowing,
From their effortless flutter,
And as my heart glows,
Our souls watch underlie.

My heart beats faster and faster,
Resting in the hollow of my chest,
And as you are closer to me,
It grows ever harder to breathe,
And I feel compelled,
To lean in and rest,
Upon your lips with mine;
Impatient as one on Christmas Eve.

If butterflies could talk,
Believe me how they would,
They’d tell my heart to you,
And leave not one detail out,
And the smiles you’ve given me,
As fast as they could,
Would fill this sky,
No doubt.
