What Makes Us Shine?

Well, here’s my first entry. It’s lifted from an opinion post on my own blog, “Great” Thoughts.  I hope it’s not too political for this venue.

What Makes Us Shine?

By Andrew Viertel

What makes us shine, America?

 Glaring searchlights?

The icy gleam of floodlight-illumined razor wire?

Spot lights from watchtowers high atop reinforced concrete walls?

Or is it a welcoming beam of light

cutting through the storm of poverty,

of fear, of tyrannical oppression;

a lamp lifted beside a golden door?

About Andrew

I'm a Christian, American, liberal, geeky, thoughtful, Northwest-transplanted Angeleno husband, father, and pundit who writes about anything he can think of.

Art wise, it’s a beautiful poem.
    “welcoming beam of light
cutting through the storm of poverty” Love this.

Political wise- Living on the border, I couldn’t disagree with you more. To each his own views. 😉

    Thanks for the welcome, Jodi.

I’ll refrain from getting into a political debate on this site, but feel free to pop over to “Great” Thoughts if you want to continue that part of the conversation. Have a good day. 🙂

    Yes, please, y’all…
We are all (undead)poets, but we do (probably, no make that, definitely) have differing political, religious, etc., views…so I would humbly request that all keep their postings to this site as non-partisan (and undead) as possible.
    That being said,

    Rhyme on!

Ooh, I like, I like, I like! *big smile*
